a walk to remember

the year: 2002

the genre: drama

the cast: Mandy Moore (Jamie Sullivan); Shane West (Landon Carter); Peter Coyote (Reveraed Sullivan); Daryl Hannah (Cynthia Carter)

the plot: Landon Carter, a popular student with no defined plans for the future, is held responsible for a prank that sends another student to the hospital. As part of his punishment, he's forced to participate in after-school community service, which include starring in the school play. Also participating in the play is Jamie Sullivan, the reverend's daughter who has great ambitions and nothing in common with Landon. When Landon decides he wants to take his activities seriously, he asks Jamie for help and begins to spend most of his time with her. And since this is a Nicolas Sparks story, you know where it goes from there...

count: how many wisecracks Blaine, Scott, and pretty much any other guy can make between the opening and closing credits.

did you know: the movie's soundtrack includes several songs from the band Switchfoot, who at the time weren't widely known. Mandy Moore was a huge fan of the band, and had a great deal of influence in their participation on the film. When they were approached to do the film however, the guys really had no idea who Moore was, and weren't familiar with her music (despite her status as a pop star with several hits on the charts).

watch for: the pink sweater.

listen for: "So, would it kill you to try?" "Yup, and I'm too young to die."

Despite all the wisecracks from Blaine and Scott, I still love this movie!

ha ha, switchfoot--they were all the rage at my high school before and after the movie came out.
