the slipper and the rose

the year: 1976

the genre: musical

the cast: Gemma Craven (Cinderella); Richard Chamberlain (Prince Edward); Christopher Gable (John); Michael Hordern (King); Kenneth More (Chamberlain)

the plot: In the tiny kingdom of Euphrania, the King and his court are most anxious to get Prince Edward wed. But Edward wants to marry for love. Meanwhile, young Cinderella finds life drastically altered with her father's death as she's forced to be a servant in her own house. A cheery fairy godmother helps her with her impossible tasks, and even gets her to take an evening out at the King's bride-finding ball. But when the magic wears off, and the prince with shoe-in-hand searches for Cinderella and finds her, what will happen to Euphrania without the needed marriage alliance to prevent war?

count: the good kings, bad kings, sane kings and mad kings in the "beautiful family crypt".

don't miss: the girl-crazy Cousin Montague.

check out: the dancing mice and frog. GREAT special effects. ;)

listen for: "I suppose I shall simply have to rise to the occasion and do something spectacular, yet again. And spectaculars always take so much out of me... It was the same with Snow White. All the same, you young girls: never do as you're told! Men are MUCH easier."

extra bonus points: if you can name three of the more than 30 movie scores written by the duo who did the music for TSATR.

If you have an extra $60-120 lying around, this movie is available on DVD. In the meantime, you can watch most of the musical numbers here, and the movie in parts, starting here.

That's one of my favorite numbers, although it wasn't until I got the soundtrack with the lyrics where I could fill in the Major Domo's line "Behind these doors, I might suggest...hmmm hmmm hmmmmmhmmm." It's actually "I might suggest, I'm similarly blessed." Who knew!

I will also confess to having the minuet choreography at the ball memorized. Which was your favorite part, Blaine? :)

genre: Practicly painful

Proof: Who dances in an open field with a shoe? That's not right. And then they plead in a song to be forgotten! I'd want to forget that too! ;) What's worse is that the songs in this musical are extremely catching. Watch it once, and you'll be surprised at how often you wake up with one in your head. They're brainwashing us all!

Sockleme: This is my word verification today. It's just a fun word!

I wanted to post as my Facebook status today "You young girls NEVER do as you're told, men are much easier" I'm SO glad that you used that one. *sigh* I've been singing the soundtrack for Blaine. He's SOOOOO happy about it, too ;) One day the DVD will be more reasonable.

"Once I was loved....I knew I was loved..." I'll do my best to get them stuck in Blaine's head :D
